Place
Yama no Table is located in Dosenbo, Minamiyamashiro Village —
the only village in Kyoto Prefecture.
It is the highest settlement in Kyoto’s primary Uji tea–growing region, at the crossroads of Mie, Shiga, and Nara.
The region has long been shaped by cultural exchange —
home to ceramic traditions and the quiet legacy of ninja history.
A former nursery school has been transformed into a place where people and land connect through food.

Scenic Gastronomy
Next year marks our 10th anniversary.
For a decade, we have worked in close relationship with nature, guided by the idea of receiving the landscape through food.
Here, we practice our original concept: Scenic Gastronomy.
Mountain plants and game, spring water, ingredients from nearby producers —a course shaped by the day, the season, and the air.
Preservation, fermentation, and careful preparation carry the cycle of this land to the table.
House-made non-alcoholic drinks crafted with organically grown tea, wild plants, trees, and fruits from our region, along with sake and natural wines, accompany the experience.

Our Team
Masahiro Tainaka, who leads the kitchen, also works in architecture and landscape design, approaching cuisine as edible landscape.
Natsuko Yanagimoto, who oversees service and tea confections, is an artist.
For this reason, we are primarily open on Sundays and Mondays.
Time in the Mountains
We invite you to spend unhurried time here —with shifting light,
the sounds of birds and insects, and the quiet rhythm of the mountains.
A table to return to, again and again.

About us

MASAHIRO TAINAKA
After graduating from Seian University of Art and Design, he worked at an architectural design office and a landscape design studio before establishing his own practice.
Alongside his work in design, he began exploring cooking as another form of expression.
Since 2016, he has been active as a picnic coordinator, guided by the idea of creating landscapes where people and place connect through food. Through ongoing relationships with the region, nature, and local producers, this vision gradually evolved into creating a place centered on food itself, which led to the founding of Yama no Table.
Under the theme of “Edible Landscape,” he creates cuisine inspired by plants, soil, and seasonal ingredients.
Representative of Tainaka Office.
Landscape design projects include GOOD NATURE STATION (Kyoto) and Abeno Hoop (Osaka).
Awards: Topawards Asia Award for “Umami Salt.”
NATSUKO YANAGIMOTO
After graduating from Kyoto Municipal Copperplate Art and Craft High School and Seian University of Art and Design, she worked as a singer and artist.
At Yama no Table, she oversees tea, confections, and floral arrangements. Using seasonal wild plants and local ingredients, she creates tea sweets and syrups that reflect the mountain landscape and the rhythm of the seasons.
